Somewhere between the sermons and the arguments and the Christian merchandise, the actual gospel gets buried under a lot of noise. Paul, writing to a church that was arguing about almost everything, stops and hands them something older than his own letter: a short, fixed statement of what the good news actually is. It reads less like a sermon and more like a legal deposition. That is worth sitting with.
