What Is Eternal Life and How Do You Receive It?
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16 What is eternal life, and how do I receive it? Short answer. Eternal life is not simply endless existence. Jesus defines it in John 17:3 as knowing God the Father and Jesus Christ whom he sent, a relationship, not just a duration. You receive it by believing in Jesus, trusting that his death and resurrection deal with your sin and open the way to God. John 3:16 puts it plainly: whoever believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. It is not earned through good behaviour or religious effort. It is a gift. And it starts now.
